15 NYSC Corps Members Kidnapped, Rescued In Anambra
No fewer than 15 corps traveling from Imo State to Lagos were on Feb 14 kidnapped in Ihiala area of Anambra State.
The corps members who just concluded their orientation course at the NYSC Orientation Camp Eziama-Obaire, Nkwerre, LGA, Imo State had their bus diverted at Total, Orlu Road Junction towards Iseke area.
DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra Command who confirmed the abduction said the Corps Members have all been rescued unhurt.
Ikenga said Operatives if the Command received a distress call at about 11:15 am and acting on intelligence, went after the abductors.
According to him, the Corps members who on their way to Lagos after undergoing the mandatory three weeks orientation course had their vehicle intercepted at Total, Orlu Riad junction, Ihiala, by yet unidentified armed men in an unmarked white Toyota Hilux.
“Their vehicle was diverted to Isseke, Ihiala-Orlu expressway where the gunmen kept them hostage.
“The armed men noticed that they were being trailed by Police Operatives, abandoned the Corps Members and sped off with the Toyota Hiace bus with Reg Nos: EPE 353 YE conveying the Corpers,” he said.
Ikenga said the Corps members were debriefed by police operatives and necessary arrangements had been perfected to convey them to their destinations.
