2025 NYG: SWAN North-South Novelty Match Ends In Barren Draw
The St Patrick College football pitch, Asaba was set on fire Thursday when members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) from the Northern region engaged their counterparts in the Southern in a novelty match.
The northern team was led by Shehu Abdullahi , Chairman of Kaduna State chapter while the Southern team was contained by Clarkson Ogo, the Secretary of Delta State Chapter.
The exciting encounter showed sparks of skills and stamina from both sides but good defense lines and excellent goalkeeping ensured the nets did not shake.
It ended with zero goals apiece.
Isaiah Benjamin said SWAN remained committed to partnering with stakeholders in the sports sector in the interest of athletes, administrators and national unity.
He said the novelty match was not only a ritual but a sign of peace, oneness and Spirit of sportsmanship.
He commended the National Sports Commission for rejigging sports and reiterated SWAN readiness to partner with the Commission
In his speech,
Amadin Enabulele, the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission appreciated SWAN for its contributions to sports development and national unity through responsible reportage.
Enabulele who was represented by Frank Ilaboya, a veteran sports journalist and administrator said the reportage of the Games had been encouraging.
He commended Isaiah Benjamin, the president of SWAN for making the association vibrant and encouraged members to continue to engage in physical exercise to boost their health and wellbeing.
