40 Students Participate In Anambra Summer Holiday Cricket Camp (video)
No fewer than 40 students are taking part in a 5-day intensive cricket summer holiday camp organised by the Anambra Cricket Association (ACA) in Awka, the Anambra capital.
The cricket summer camp which is holding at Bishop Crowther Seminary, Awka is sponsored by Chuma Anosike, the chairman of ACA and supported by parents.
Umeh Ugochukwu, the Coordinator of the programme who spoke to journalists in Tuesday said about 22 boys and 18 girls from across the state were in camp.
Umeh who is the Head Coach of Anambra Cricket Team said eight experienced coaches were invited to the training which would include both classroom and practical sessions to ensure that the basic skills were effectively impacted on the players,
According to him, various activities are planned to help the participants improve their skills on and off the pitch on physical fitness, fielding drills, battling drills and umpiring decisions
“These include long and short barriers, returns, catches and cover ups and fielding positions, basic cricket shots, running in-between the wickets and making calls, shot selection, setting, chasing a total.
“We are also teaching them the various calls in cricket and their meanings as well as career guidance because cricket is part of education,” he said
Umeh said the camping programme also provided the opportunity for the unveiling of the new dual carriage moveable training net donated by Anosike to the ACA.
“Players and coaches are all grateful for his unending support and they have promised to give their best and ensure that these efforts are rewarded,” he said.
