Nnewi Union In Atlanta Georgia Pays N17.8bn To Offsets Bills Incurred By Patients
A group, Nnewi Union in Atlanta Georgia, United States of America (USA) has paid a total of N17,79 to write off bills of some patients who were trapped in some hospitals in the industrial town of Nnewi.
The beneficiaries, 17 in number were trapped in Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital NAUTH, St Thomas Hospital, Hope Hospital and other.
The expenses covered hospital bills, investigation, dialysis as well as surgical operations for the concerned patients.
The gesture which avails discharged patients the benefit of going home to celebrate Christmas and new year with members of their families is part of humanitarian work which has spanned for six years.
The group was represented by Isaac Emefo, Mrs Okeke Grace and Mrs Chioma Egbuonu.
Emefo who spoke on behalf of the team while briefing the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Nnewi, Prof Joseph Ugboaja in his office said their mission was to help patients go home and celebrate Christmas with their families.
He said picking the bills of the awaiting bill settlement patients was very important to them.
“Our ultimate aim is to put smiles on the faces of persons who would have celebrated the yuletide in the hospital just because they could not offset the bills incurred at different hospitals,” he said.
Responding, Dr Henry Nwankwo , the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Council on behalf of the CMD, commended the group for their humanitarian gestures.
He said that the awaiting bill settlement (ABS) scheme of Nnewi Union in Atlanta Georgia, USA was in line with one of the pillars of NAUTH which according to him is partnership with the community.
“There is the need to give a helping hand to the awaiting bill settlement patients has become so imperative because of the economic reality prevailing in the country at the moment,” he said.
One of the beneficiaries Edwin Amanchukwu, a Leukemia patient,
applauded the Nnewi Union in Atlanta Georgia, USA for their intervention.
The 17 year old who hailed from Obosi in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State said that the non discriminatory approach of the ground in the settlement of bills for less privileged is heartwarming.
According to him, we pray for continuous blessing and protection of God on all the members of the ground.
