Sylflora MD Says High Interest, Tariffs Suffocating Local Manufacturing Sector
Mrs Christiana Nwaele, Managing Director of Sylflora Industries and Farms Ltd has called on the Federal Government to support the manufacturing sector.
Nwaele, who produces Sylflora range of household and toiletry products made the call in an interview with journalists in Awka .
She decried poor electricity supply and high traffic saying it was killing private sector operators.
She also called for low interest rates for manufacturers as bank loans were no longer serviceable for real sector people us.
“In our factory in Umunya, we run on generators for 24hrs everyday and this is affecting our cost of production and pricing.
*We need this ease of operation to stay in business and keep our workers, we need more companies to be afloat and continue to help the economy through employment of workers.
Nwaele said standardisation and certification of products is a good way of boosting customer confidence and increasing competitiveness in the market.
“So it is always a delight when your product pass all approval processes and get certified for both local and international market.
“We need the regulators to bring manufacturers who are producing in their homes unregulated into the supervisory network.
“They are really hurting the sector with their cheap and unapproved products,” he said.
