Fedpoly Oko Alumni Gets New Leadership, Plans Multi Million Naira Museum
The Alumni Association of the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra says it plans to build a museum worth N100 million for the institution.
The Alumni Association unveiled the project plan at the end of its election in Awka on Sunday.
Mr Henry Nnebe, the reelected National President of Federal Polytechnic Oko said the legacy project would help in the collection and preservation of some of the breakthrough works of the institution as well as other related artifacts.
Nnebe, who commended his members for the peaceful election and re-electing him, said the association had commenced the construction of a modern gate at the Ufuma campus of the institution.
According to him, we have two projects we are going to execute in the institution, these are the IBB Museum and Ufuma gate which are already ongoing.
“The museum is expected to gulp about N100 million and it would be named after Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, the former military president for his outstanding contributions to the institution.
“It was IBB who converted the then Anambra Polytechnic to Federal Polytechnic in 1993, he also attracted funding which projected FedPolyOko beyond some of its contemporaries.
“Already, we have also started the IBB annual lecture, all targeted at giving him his due credit in the institution,” he said.
Nnebe said the Alumni under his leadership would continue to support the management of the institution to ensure it achieved its lofty objectives.
He said his administration would leverage the strength of membership of no fewer than 500,000 graduates with 10 branches to create a more vibrant and responsive alumni.
He said the discrimination against Polytechnic graduates was a huge challenge affecting their membership as many Poly graduates were moving over to the Universities for a make up programme thereby abandoning original identity.
He called on Polytechnic graduates to be proud of their certificates and openly identify with the alumni, noting that most university Alumni do not even have their capacity.
Mr Augustine Metu, a member of the Board of Trustees said he was satisfied with the election describing it as peaceful and democratic.
Metu, a one time Students Union President expressed the Alumni Association under Nnebe’s leadership, had witnessed tremendous progress.
“Today we recorded a milestone with a peaceful, rancor-free election, conducted by the President. We commend him on his first term and pray he’ll do better in the second term,” he said.

national officers were Chief Henry Belonwu Onyekwelu (Vice President); Dr Nwazue Chimemela (National Secretary) and Dr. Magnus Ugwa (Assistant National Secretary)
Also elected were Mr Gabriel Nwafor (national treasurer); Chidi Jean Ikechukwu (National Publicity secretary); Stephen Goodluck Omamuzo (Director of Protocol); Dr Beatrice Ezechukwu (Director of Welfare) and Emmanuel Muonwe (Director of Finance).
