Anosike, Anambra Cricket Chairman To Receive SWAN Honours
Chuma Anosike, Chairman of Anambra Cricket Association (ACA) Chairman has been nominated for SWAN Diamond Jubilee National Award at the 60th anniversary and award ceremony.
This was contained in a Statement issued by SWAN @60 Media and Publicity Committee and signed by Chimezie Anaso and
Hembadoon Orsar, Chairman and Secretary respectively on Monday.
A letter of nomination signed by Ikenna Okonkwo Secretary General of SWAN said Anosike was nominated for his contributions to the development of sports in Nigeria and Southeast in particular.
“The award is in recognition of your contributions towards our national sports promotion and development within the cycle of the last six decades.
“Thank you for making Nigeria great through sports, we hope this gesture would encourage you to do more for our great nation,” it said.
Anosike, a lawyer, has been involved with the game of cricket for almost five decades.
He started his foray into cricket as a schoolboy in King’s College,Lagos and later at the University level where he was a key member of the Unilag team that famously defeated the University of Ife team at NUGA 1984.
Anosike has served as Chairman of ACA for over 15 years a former 1st Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Cricket Association.Between 2001 and 2004.
He was elected to represent the North West African Zone on the Board of the Afro Asia Cricket Committee and was recently elected to serve as a Board Member of the Nigeria Cricket Federation as Sponsors Representative.
He has sponsored the Chuma Anosike Southeast Cricket Championships for over 10 years.
Also nominated from Anambra was Ngozika Ekwelum, a Veteran pugilist.
Ekwelum is a former African Boxing Federation Heavyweight Champion and a former Head Coach of the state boxing team.
The Jubilee and Award ceremony is scheduled to hold at the MKO Abiola Stadium Abuja, between
Oct. 29 and Oct. 31.
