Police-led Joint Team Rescues South Africa Based Returnee in Anambra

Police-led joint security operatives have rescued a South Africa based Nigerian citizen from Obinagu–Isikweachi, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State who was abducted on Jan. 1

The team which was attached to the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Aguata rescued the victim in the early hours of Jan.15 while on routine patrol around the Isulo axis of Orumba South Local Government Area.

SP Toochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) disclosed this on Friday said the victim was abducted from his hometown by a gang of six hooded armed men.

Ikenga said the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Forty Million Naira N40 million from the victim’s wife and relatives.

“He however, managed to escape from the kidnappers’ den, leading to his eventual rescue by the joint security operatives.

“Following his rescue, the victim was properly debriefed and has since been reunited with his family.

“Meanwhile, the operatives are actively working with actionable intelligence provided by the victim to identify and dislodge the criminal hideout within the area and arrest those responsible,” he said.

Ikenga said Anambra Police Command remained committed to sustaining proactive policing.
