Sit-At-Home: Soludo Shuts down Onitsha Main Market For One Week
Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra has directed the shutdown of the largest market in Southeast, the Onitsha Main Market for a period of one week with immediate effect.
Soludo ordered the closure when he personally inspected the order for an end to Monday Sit-At-Home in Onitsha on Monday.
He also threatens one month shutdown of markets and businesses which refuse to open their premises for business if they continue observe Monday Sit-At-Home.
The governor said his administration would no longer tolerate the closure of economic and social activities on Monday in Onitsha on account of Sit-At-Home.
“This will no longer be allowed to continue, you either decide that you want to trade here or you go elsewhere.
“Going forward, any market or shop that is not open on Monday will be closed for one week,” he said .
The governor’s monitoring team, accompanied by a joint task force of police, army, and other security personnel moved swiftly to secure the perimeter, turning away the few hopefuls who approached.
The governor had also issued an executive order directing teachers and civil servants to be at their duty posts on Mondays.
