Johnny Igboka Laments Poor Technical Manpower In Anambra Sports Sector
Johnny Igboka, a national athletics coach based in Anambra has decried the increase dearth of technical officials in the Anambra
Igboka who is the Founder and Chief Coach of All Sports Foundation Academy Nimo (ASFAN) told newsmen that only about four Athletics coaches in the state were recognised at the national level.
Igboka, a retired staff of Anambra Sports Development Commission said the poor technical manpower was affecting grassroots development and exposure of athletes in the state.
Igboka called on Gov. Chukwuma Soludo to consider appointing a passionate Chairman who would genuinely work for the progress of the sector and development of athletes.
“Currently, I can say we do not have coaches in Anambra, some of our best coaches who were also athletes have retired from service and the state is not interested in tapping from their experience.
“As I am talking to you just about four Athletics coaches including myself are known at the national level, most sporting events do not have coaches,” he said.
Igboka said there should be special recruitment for coaches who have both the playing and administrative experience against the culture of using civil servants as sports coaches.
“I appeal to governor Soludo appointment a technocrat with practical knowledge of sports to head the sector in the second term of his administration,” he said
Soludo is yet to appoint a Chairman for the Sports Commission.
