NYSC swears in 1,926, Obiano inaugurates permanent camp
The National Youths Service corps(NYSC) has swore in 1,926 new corp members in Anambra.The corps members comprising 1,018 females and 908 males were members of 2020 Batch A deployed to the state for the year national service.Mr Kehinde Aremu, Coordinator of NYSC in Anambra, who disclosed this in his address on Thursday congratulated corp members for the successful completion of their tertiary education; assured them of worthwhile stay in Anambra.Aremu said after the orientation course, the corps members would be deployed to serve in the states secondary schools system and the primary healthcare centres in line with the manpower needs of the State government.He lauded Gov. Willie Obiano for delivering on the permanent orientation camp project as well as regular payment of corp members State allowance which he said was the highest in the country in spite of seeming economic hardship.“Gentlemen corp members, my appeal to you is to take advantage of the orientation course and the service year to learn the virtues of discipline, teamwork, entrepreneurship, delayed gratification and service.“These will be taught by the NYSC and Anambra people, these are virtues we live by which guarantees personal, family and societal and national prosperity,” he said.Mr Afam Mbanefo, Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economic, in Anambra said the State offered good opportunity for committed and entrepreneurial oriented minds.Mbanefo who is the chairman of NYSC Governing Council, said assessment of corp members had commenced since the day they arrived on camp assuring that there would be handsome rewarded for good behaviour.He congratulated the corp members for being posted to one of the best orientation facility in the country assuring that the governor would ensure that the project was completed and delivered.
On his part, Mr Sunday Dare, Minister of Youth and Sports, thanked the Anambra government for building a befitting permanent orientation camp for NYSC in the state.
Dare charged the corps members to give their best to the country while congratulating them for the increase in their monthly allowance which President Muhammadu Buhari had approved.
He lauded Obiano for his contributions to sports especially the recently concluded 12th Nigeria Police Games which ended on March 7.The camp was later inaugurated by Governor Obiano who pointed that the project which was started by his administration in 2015 had reached 98 per cent completion.Obiano said his Government would ensure speedy completion of the NYSC Skills Acquisition Centre for South East which had been sited in the state.On February 10, 2015 precisely, i laid the foundation stone of this complex with the intention of building the best NYSC Orientation Camp in Nigeria, happily, i have been told that this Camp was one of the best NYSC Orientation Camps in Nigeria today.“It is equipped with all the amenities needed in a modern camp, it was designed to accommodate 3,000 people. The complex also has an auditorium with the capacity of accommodating 3,000 people in a sitting arrangement.“The NYSC Directorate and the Ministry of Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy are already working together to facilitate it,” he said.Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, Director General of NYSC was among the top dignitaries who joined the governor at the inauguration of the camp complex.
