Chidoka gives COVID-19 cash palliative to 500 Nigerians
Chief Osita Chidoka, a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has gifted cash to no fewer than 500 Nigerians as his part of his personal contribution to cushioning their hardship in the COVID-19 period.
The beneficiaries were drawn from his twitter and Facebook followers who submitted their account numbers in anticipation to get assistance.
According to Ikechukwu Okafor, his Special Adviser on media and publicity, no fewer than 700 names had been marched with their account numbers while about 500 had been duly credited.
Okafor said a number of persons submitted their multiple account numbers but that the list was well filtered to eliminate duplications
This people according to him were exclusive of no fewer than 150 staff under the employ of Chidoka who had received their palliative during the period.
“Following the COVID-19 lockdown, people on social media in their hundreds bombarded my principal with account details, he never asked anyone to send account details.
“Already he had over 150 staff already under his payroll he has to take care of.
“After helping a few quietly and reading the touching messages that accompanied most of the account details, he instructed me immediately to compile all the account details sent in, which were more than 500.
“I quickly reminded him that the accounts may be more than 700 but he simply said I should go ahead, at the end I got about 500 names and accounts confirmed.
“In the past few days, my principal has credited all the 500 accounts, except for those ones who smartly sent their account details twice and the system flagged it as duplicate,” he said.
Okafor said he had received instruction to compile a fresh list of would-be beneficiaries which may not be less than 1,000 names.
He however called on the privileged members of the society not to abuse the benevolence by sending in applications to get help when they should actually help those around them.
“The Obosi born Ijele Anambra, Osita Chidoka has yesterday directed that I compile the new sets of account details which may run into thousands this time.
“The palliative is for the vulnerable. Don’t claim to be one if you are not,” Okafor advised.
