One killed in Anambra fatal jeep/truck crash
A man identified as Aaron Nnamdi on Friday lost his life when he rammed his Lexus RX330 SUV marked GGE-339-FU into a truck going in the opposite direction at Nteje axis of the Enugu-Onitsha expressway.
The accident was said to have occurred at about 2 am and the Mercedes 911 truck with registration number XA-588-ENU was driven by one Mr Tony Nwawoukwu.
Corp Commander, Andrew Kumapayi, Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Anambra attributed the cause of the crash to speeding and wrongful overtaking.
Kumapayi who spoke through Pascal Anigbo, the Public Enlightenment Officer of the Sector Command said the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at a private morgue in the area, while investigation was going on.
The FRSC boss warned motorist against night journeys.
“The vehicles have been towed to the Police Station, for further investigation.
“The Sector Commander advises all road users and motorists to shun night travels, especially in this period of COVID-19 pandemic and in accordance with government directives on prohibition night travels (8pm-6am).
“He sends his condolences to the family of the dead and admonishes drivers to always drive defensively as most road traffic crashes are avoidable,” he stated.
