Anambra Petroleum Committee Expresses Worry Over Incessant Tanker Accidents

Chief Christian Okonkwo, Chairman of Anambra Petroleum Procurement, Pricing and Distribution Committee has expressed worry over the spate of accidents related petrol tanker across the country.
Okonkwo was reacting to spate of petrol tanker related accidents in the state on Thursday.
It would be recalled that petrol tanker had claimed and maimed many people on the roads in the state.
The last was the a fully laden lone tanker which crashed into the drainage at Aguleri Junction, Anambra East Council Area at the weekend.
The fully laden truck carrying PMS lost control and fell on its side while trying to enter a filling station to discharge its contenft.
But the early arrival of fire service team, FRSC and other security agencies prevented the tanker from going up in flames.
Okonkwo whose committee is working to ensure that there was sanity in the petroleum down sector in Anambra said the state cannot afford loss of life and property a result of petroleum tanker accident.
He urged drivers to be more cautious while driving through or within the state especially now that there was increased vehicular traffic ahead of Christmas and New Year.
“My advice to tanker drivers is that they should exercise maximum caution because this rainy season and anything can happen due to slippery road, poor visibility especially in the night and mechanical uncertainties.
“In this ember month, we are going to experience increased vehicular traffic so tankers band truck drivers should be more careful,” he said.
The taskforce chairman lauded the intervention of officers of fire service and other agencies who condoned of the area and ensured that fire did not ignite.
According to him, want to thank governor Obiano who has provided state of the art equipment for the Anambra Fire Service and commend the speed with which they responded to the accident. It saved the state of great tragedy.
