I’m Not Intimidated Playing Against Older Ones, 15-Year-Old Says
Fifteen-year-old Promise Okpara says he is not intimidated by having to play with and against men much older than himself.
Okpara who is playing for SmithCity Football Club of Okpuno in the ongoing “My Anambra Football” Super 8 finals at the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium in Onitsha, is the youngest player in the tournament.
He told journalists that he was happy to play in a major competition where players more mature in age and experience were featuring.
The footballer however said he was working hard to improve on his skills and strength to enable him do well as a striker.
“I am happy to play in this tournament with my seniors, because the experience is worthwhile and I am fulfilled to be part of Super 8.”
Okpara disclosed that he joined SmithCity FC earlier this year and has been to break into the main team.
“Though the games are hard for me, but I was not intimidated by the big boys,” he said.
Okpara said he just gained admission into the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in Umudike and now has a big decision ahead of him.
He said this was the decision on how to effectively combine his football career and academic career.
The striker said his dream was not to be like anybody but to be the best footballer of his generation.
