Igbo Women Group Says Enforcing No-Open Grazing Law Will End Insecurity in Southern Nigeria

Members of the socio-cultural group, Nkata Ndi Inyom Ndigbo, an Igbo women sociocultural organisation has applauded the resolutions of the Southern Nigeria governors held in Asaba, Delta State Capital on May 11.
The group told journalists in Awka on Saturday that the 10 point resolutions were capable of bringing lasting solutions to the checkered security situation in the country.
Mrs Josephine Anenih, former minister of Women Affairs and National President of the group, said the ban on open grazing in the south address the root cause of insecurity in the regions as well as guarantee food security in the country.
Anenih said the action of the governors was long overdue because lots of women had been raped, killed and driven away from their farms by marauding terrorist herdsmen who operated unfettered for a long time.
The group flayed those accusing the governors of secessionist agenda instead of commending them for making deliberate moves to protect the lives and economic activities of their people.

The women tasked the governors to take the grazing ban beyond rhetoric and ensure it was enforced with grave consequences to violators.
They said in addition, the federal government should strongly consider devolution of security powers so that states could be able control security machinery within their domain.

Nkata Ndi Inyom Ndigbo said there was no better time for components of the Nigerian federation to sit at a table for national dialogue than now while calling on the President to address nation as a matter of necessity.
