Petroleum Marketers Say C of O Delaying Takeoff Of Tanker Park Project In Anambra
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) says it was yet to commence the development of proposed Petroleum Tanker Park in Anambra because the state government has not handed over legal document of the proposed land to them.
Mr Chinedu Anyaso, Chairman of IPMAN Enugu Depot Community said this in an interview with newsmen in Awka on Sunday.
He said IPMAN and Anambra government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the project wherein government would provide the land while marketers would finance the development.
He said association were still waiting for the government to make good its part of the agreement which was reached about a year ago.
Anayaso said the Tanker Park Facility project was another prong of the agreement which would be beneficial to both government and the general public.
He said the park which would contain about 300 trucks at a time when completed would reduce petrol tanker related crashes by easing traffic load and reduce fatigue among drivers.
He said the park would also yield high revenue to the state as well as boost the economy of the people in the area noting that IPMAN would develop it.
“We also want to remind Anambra government that we are waiting for the Certificate of Occupancy document for the land they promised to provide so that we can move in build the tanker park facility as agreed.
“The park will increase the activities of marketers in the state and also reduce accidents among our members.
“It has both safety, security and economic benefits for everybody but we have not seen enough action in that regard, we appeal to the governor to make the approval and ensure that the relevant ministry and department implement it,” he said.
Anyaso lauded the Anambra government for acting proactively and averting petrol crisis by offsetting the indebtedness of Transport Company of Anambra State (TRACAS) to an IPMAN member in the state.
He said the payment of the debt which had lingered for about five years was at the verge of creating energy crisis in the state but thanked the government for fulfilling its promise as contained in the agreement between the parties.
“I must tell you that IPMAN and Anambra government are collaborating harmoniously, for now there is no face off or possible shutdown because they are addressing issues in our agreement with them.
“I want to thank Gov. Willie Obiano who directed the payment of debt owed one member, Siluch Oil by the state owned TRACAS since 2017, I can confirm that the marketer has received his money and we are grateful,” he said.
Mr C-Don Adinuba, Commissioner for Works and Public Enlightenment said the project was receiving due attention from government as the land had been ear marked and document sent to governor for approval .
Adinuba said it was hold that governor would sign the document and give to transport ministry which would in turn transmit it to IPMAN .
He said the park a number of benefit including decongestion roads, improvement of aesthetics of the state, creation of jobs and generation of revenue for government and union.
According to him, we are on top of it, in no distant time, they will get the papers so that they can commence work.
