Fr Joseph, Aguata To Clash In Finals Of Anambra Academicals Football Cup
Fr Joseph Memorial Grammar School, Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area will play against Aguata High School in Aguata Local Government in the senior boys finals of the 2021 Anambra Academical Football championship.
Fr Joseph qualified after beating Bubendorf Memorial Grammar School Adazi 2-1 while Aguata boys booked a place in the final game after a painstaking 2-1 win against Washington Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha.
This year’s edition of the Academicals Cup featured three categories including U-13 for primary school males, U-17 secondary school females and U-17 secondary school boys.
In the secondary school girls category, Christ Redeemer College, Amesi which defeated Community Secondary School Isuofia 2-0 will face their semi final opponents again for the U-17 girls champions.
This followed the disqualification of the two other semi finalists, Community Secondary Schools, Azia and Washington Grammar School, Onitsha for presenting ineligible players.
While every player of Community Secondary School, Azia failed to meet the competition criteria, only seven were eligible in the Washington Memorial Grammar School side.
Tony Oli, Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission, the organisers of the competition ruled that both teams were disqualified and would not compete for third place.
Oli said the competition was purely a developmental programme and the Commission would not condone or encourage age cheat, fraud or unethical sporting practices at this stage or any other.
Lastly in the U-13, Eri Primary School, Aguleri and Community Primary School Orsumenyi will play to determine champions while Umuogali Primary School, Oba and Eziagulu Primary school will play in the third place match.
Final games of the competition will be played at the Awka Township Stadium football pitch at a yet to be announced date.
