LMC Inspects Awka Stadium Rangers FC’s Temporary Base
The League Management Company (LMC) has inspected the newly constructed Awka Township Stadium Football pitch ahead of Rangers FC’s relocation as a new temporary home ground.
The team which visited on Tuesday was led by Davidson Owunmi, Chief Operating Officer (CEO of LMC.
The inspection was sequel to the application of the Management of Rangers Int’l FC of Enugu to use the Awka stadium for their home matches.
The LMC did not disclose their findings or decision to newsmen at the stadium saying it would be contained in their report.
Rangers FC had been playing their home matches at the FC Ifeanyi Ubah stadium, Nnewi since the start of the 2021/2022 season following the closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium (the cathedral) for repair works.
Ferdinand Ugwuarua, Administrative Secretary of Rangers FC who led some officials of the club on the visit said they were impressed with the quality of the facility.
He said if LMC gave approval, the Flying Antelopes would play their next home game (Wk 19) against Lobi Stars in Awka.
He commended Nnewi fans for their support and expressed hope that Awka will give them more, adding that Awka would be a better home for them.
“We have seen the pitch which is world class, the dressing room is superb and I must say that the contractor Ebi Egbe, Managing Director of Monimichelle Ltd who is one of our guides did a great job here.
“The pitch in Nnewi retarded our game due to the poor pitch, we did better in away games than home and after the technical analysis, the report showed that poor pitch was responsible but we are hopeful that with this venue, our home games will be much better,” he said.

On his part, Victor Aniekwena, Vice Chairma Anambra State Football Association (AnSFA) said the stadium was built to meet the minimum international standard for pitch.
Aniekwena who is the acting Chairman of AnSFA said Anambra was ready to play host to Rangers in their new home ground, expressing hope that the LMC would produce a good report and approve the venue.
Also speaking, Egbe, Managing Director of Monimichelle Ltd said the hybrid synthetic pitch was built with modern technology in the industry.
He said Anambra now had a pitch that could host high grade games in the country while noting that maintenance was important in keeping the facility in shape.
