NFF Declares Iloenyosi Winner Of AnSFA Election Two Years After Stalemate
The Nigeria Football Federation has recognised Chikelue Ilornyosi, a former international footballer as chairman of the Anambra State Football Association (AnSFA).
The recognition came 21 months after the AnSFA election which was held on Oct. 30, 2022 and declared inconclusive.
The election was conducted by Iloenyosi and Emeka Okeke, former caretaker committee chairman of the association.
Iloenyosi who scored one ‘yes’ vote was not returned winner by Fr Obinna Dike led electoral committee for not scoring the highest number of votes cast in the election.
In a letter signed by Joshua Onoja, Secretary, NFF Electoral Committee
For the General Secretary and dated July 28, the football governing body said Iloenyosi was the only candidate qualified for the election based on findings of the Appeals Committee.
The letter was entitled “Re: Recognition Of Mr. Chikelue Iloenyoesi As The
Chairman In The Elections Into The Anambra State Football Association Executive Board Conducted On
30th October, 2020”
It said the idea of voting ‘for’ or ‘against’ a sole candidate was a serious aberration that should not be allowed to stand.
According to the NFF, assuming but without conceding, that a new election is held, the petitioner will still stand as the sole candidate.
“Finally, in view of the foregoing, the NFF do hereby recognize Chikelue Iloenyosi as the chairman elect of the AnSFA, arising from the elections of 30th October, 2020.
“This recognition takes effect from this 28th day of July, 2022,” it stated.
Chijioke Onyedika, Secretary of the AnSFA confirmed the receipt of the letter.
Iloenyosi was a former U23 and Super Eagles player. Until this declaration, he was the Soecial Assistant to Amaju Pinnik, President of the NFF.
