NSF Football: Anambra Female Team Beat Gombe To Keep Semi Final Hope Alive
The Anambra female football team on Saturday defeated their Gombe State counterpart by 1-0 at the Federal Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Ukwu football pitch to keep their hope of qualifying to the semi final alive.
A goal by Amarachi Onuora spotting jersey number 9 in the 26th minute was all the Anambra babes needed to remain in contention for the two available spots in the group.
The group was a good comeback for the team which lost 6-0 to Lagos on Friday in a match decided at the Ogwashi-Ukwu mini stadium pitch.
The team would face Delta State female team on Sunday.
Delta state had walloped Gombe 5-0 in their first game.
Speaking after the match, Peace Arugwu, Coach of the Anambra team said the result waa a good morale booster for her team.
Arugwu said she was confident of victory over Delta State assuring that her team was improving on every game.
She however pointed out that the number of injured players in her team was worrisome.
“Some of my players are injured, I pray it does not affect our next match.
“It is possible to win Delta State, i am confident we can do it,” she said.
