The second edition of All Secondary Schools football championship for schools in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra and environ will kick off on Feb. 14.
The kick off match will be between the defending champions, Christ the Way Secondary School and Queen of Angels Secondary school at the Anglican Girls Secondary school Nnewi football field.
In the male category of the championship, Nneoma High School will open their campaign for coveted prize against Nnewi High school at St John the Cross Egbo Nnewi
on Feb. 17.
A total of 24 schools including 16 in the male category and eight in the female category will take part in the championship which will be held between Feb. 14 and April 8.
Emmanuel Okwudili, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, said the second edition promised to be bigger and better than the first edition.
Okwudili said the idea of the tournament was to encourage school sports in Anambra and Nigeria in general adding that they were happy with what they have been able to achieve with little resources available to them.
“The first edition was for schools within Nnewi North LGA but in this second edition, we are expanding it to accommodate schools in Nnewi and neighbouring towns.
“Some of the players we discovered in the last tournament will be playing in this year’s Anambra state FA Cup.
“We are happy for the success so far and we are working hard to achieve a great tournament,” he said.
