PG ASATU-Youth Harps On Promotion Of Good Governance As Nnobi Elects New Exco
Comrade Ken Okoli, the President General of Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU)-Youth Wing has called the youth to be the vanguard of governance and ensure they are not used by troublemakers to foment trouble in their communities.
Okoli said this after the election of new ASATU-Youth wing leadership in Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra on Saturday.
The President General who witnessed the election commended Nnobi youth for the peaceful and transparent election and transition.
He said the maturity displayed by the participants throughout the process was an indication that youths were ready to move from being informed followers to becoming responsible leaders.
Okoli advised other communities borrow a leaf from Nnobi Youth during their respective elections as the exercise met all the guidelines as approved by the Ministry of Youth Development
“The Nnobi Youth election is a worthy example, it is the way forward, and I call on other communities to learn from this,” he said.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Chiagoziem Akonu the newly elected President of ASATU-YOUTH in Nnobi dedicated his victory to God and the entire youths of the Community.
Akonu was returned winner by Mr Ezeakum Chijioke, the Returning Officer after polling 292 votes to beat Mr Ikechukwu Okolo and Mr Okechukwu Ewelugo who scored 35 votes and five votes respectively to second and third places.
Akonu assured the people (women and youths) of Nnobi community that they would continue to enjoy the benefit of good leadership while promising to run an all-inclusive and participatory leadership.
He further commended the Association of Nnobi Youth Electoral Body (ANYEB) and security operatives for ensuring a free and fair election.
Those who witnessed included Mrs Amaka Obi, the Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South Local Government, Mr Dominic Okpala, the President General of Nnobi, Kizito Nwakibie Anoliefo, the APGA Chairman of Idemili South, Mr Ifeanyi Aguh, Chairman of ANYEB and Mr Onyebuchi Nwobu ASATU first VP.
