SWAN NEC Sacks Nwanetanya, Ajayi, Appoints New Officers
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has relieved Gabriel Nwanetanya and Ajayi Oluwaseun-Obe of their appointments as Ex-Officios.

The sack of the two erstwhile appointees was contained in a Statement signed by Ikenn Okonkwo, the Secretary General of SWAN after an emergency National Executive Committee meeting held in Abuja on Monday.
The Secretary General also announced the appointment of new officers to replace the axed ex appointees.
It said the move became necessary following the failure of both Nwanetanya and Ajayi to assist the President and NEC in carrying out its statutory functions in line with Articles 11 (i) led them to lose their positions.
He said Nwanetanya and Oluwaseun-Obe had engaged in activities and conducted themselves in a manner which had brought the SWAN to disrepute repeatedly
Both former National Officers were earlier appointed after the emergence of the incumbent SWAN administration led by Mr. Isaiah Benjamin in 2023.
“With this, you are expected to handover any form of Association’s document or property relating to your previous position to the SWAN National Secretariat within seven days of receiving this information.
“While assuring you of our highest regards, the SWAN President particularly wishes you all the best in your future,” part of the letter terminating their appointments on February 23, 2024 read.
‘Consequently, China Acheru of Wazobia FM, SWAN Rivers State chapter and Biodun Ogundipe of Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC), Ogun State Chapter have emerged as new SWAN National Ex-Officio members.
“Also, Amusan Olufemi Ayorinde of the DAAR Communications PLC, Oyo State Chapter has been appointed as the National Treasurer.
The new appointments already ratified by NEC, take effect immediately,” he said.
