Ezeonwuka Lauds Soludo For Resettling Over 3,000 Displaced Women In Onitsha Coke-market
Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, BOT MEMBER All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has commended Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State for returning displaced foodstuff sellers at the popular Coke-market in the commercial city of Onitsha.
Ezeonwuka who spoke on Wednesday said Soludo had done well by not only dislodging them from the expressway but resettling them in their original environment.
He said he had always stood with those women and identified with their challenges adding that it was unfair to sack them the market they had traded in for decades without an alternative location that could contain them.
He condemned the action of a group of people that built a few market stalls at the back of Power Mike Stadium and tried to use previous governments to enforce the Coke-market women, mostly widows, into the market.
“I want to thank Gov. Soludo for opening the Coke-market for over 3,000 women who sell food stuff.
“These women are mostly widows and poor, it is good that the governor has taken them back to where they have been.
“I have always condemned past governments who chased them away from there.
“Coke-market is also an important market for people living in Okpoko that are receiving a face-lift for the traders and the public, it is mainly food stuff,” he said.
Ezeonwuka advised the women to conduct themselves very well and ensure they kept the market and its environs clean and healthy.
He also warned them against blocking the roads as a way of appreciating the government’s kindness to them.
