WCD 2024 :Anambra Sports Commission BossTasks Parents On Protection Of The Child
Chief Patrick-Estate Onyedum, Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ASSDC) has felicitated children all over the world on this year’s International Children’s Day
Onyedum who spoke at the 2024 World Children’s Day in Awka on Monday described children as God’s special gift to the world which also guarantees the perpetuation of humanity.
He commended the United Nations for setting out a day to specially celebrate children and discuss issues which affect them.
He congratulated teeming children of Anambra especially those who came out for the event as well as the management of the schools for being part of the celebration.
Onyedum said children had inalienable rights to life, proper care, good education and health care which should be guaranteed at all times to ensure a better society.
He condemned some of the abuses children were subjected to such as sexual violation, physical torture, lack of care, trafficking and
denial of basic human right and called for strict enforcement of laws against child abuse.
He advised them to imbibe the ethics of good morals, strong values, discipline, cleanliness, responsible citizenship and fear of God.
“I call on parents to always evaluate the parents-child relationship in the family which is the first stage of socialisation for children and ensure they do not suffer any form of parental negligence.
“Every parents and guardians, school principals as well as teachers should join hands and stand up for our children, to nurture them and help build a future for them.
“They are the future of our society, we need to give them the foundation of sound knowledge and morals with requisite skill sets,” he said.
Onyedum commended Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for his policy of free and education in Anambra which was crucial to addressing the plights of children.
