Enugu S’Gov’t Owes EEDC N1Bn, Seals Off Company Offices, Disruption Of Operations
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has lamented the sealing off it’s offices by operatives of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA)
This came after the EEDC served the Enugu State Government a notice of disconnection following indebtedness amounting to over N1 Billion owed for power consumed.
Emeka Ezeh, Head, Corporate Communications, EEDC said workers of the company were surprised to meet their offices across the state under lock and key Tuesday morning.
Ezeh said ECTDA officials arrived at about 1.53am and locked up the gates, claiming that the State Governor directed the action.
He said affected were Head Office Abakpa, Awkunanaw, and Ogui District offices, noting that,Enugu State Government was one of the indebted customers with over N1 Billion.
“This development is strange because there was no notice of any sort by the agency to our organisation.
“As of now, there has not been any clear information/ communication from ECTDA explaining their action.
“We however suspect that this action might not be unconnected to the notice of disconnection published by EEDC informing indebted customers of intention to commence disconnection today, Tuesday 11th June, 2024.
“It is important to state that the majority of the state government’s facilities are metered, , it is not a case of estimated billing,” he said.
Ezeh said EEDC had about N180 Billion as debt owed the company and had concluded plans to commence disconnection of indebted customers.
