Many Feared Killed In Another Anambra Market Building Collapses
A plaza at Ekeoyibo Amawbia market, Amawbia in Awka Local Government Area has collapsed with yet to be ascertained number of persons, mostly traders, trapped in the rubbles.
The building was still under construction caved in Thursday afternoon
The Amawbia market is one of the busiest markets in the capital town.
According to an eyewitness the building collapsed suddenly without prior sign.
Meanwhile, the Police in Anambra says no death had been recorded as at press time.
SP Toochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra confirmed that two victims had been rescued by the Police and taken to hospital for medical care.
Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam led operatives to the scene for on the spot assessment.
According to him, the area has been cordoned off and rescue Operations are still ongoing.
An ongoing plaza project in Ochanja Market in Onitsha collapsed on Feb. 26 with fatalities and casualties.
