Anambra Wrestling Chairman ‘Mighty Uche Fancy’ Promises To Revive Game’s Glory
Uchenna Animoke, Chairman of Anambra State Wrestling Association (AWA) has said he would plan and implement programmes that will make Anambra the power house of wrestling in Nigeria.
Animoke, popularly known as ‘Mighty Uche Fancy’ said this in an interview with Journalists in Awka on Saturday.
The new AWA Chairman who was Inaugurated alongside 15 other association boards on Nov. 14 commended Patrick-Estate Onyedum, Chairman Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ASSDC) for reconstituting the board.
He said he would adopt a grassroots based developmental approach with establishment of Wrestling Clubs in select schools with the aim of making it loved and popular among youths.
Animoke, a household name in wrestling in Nigeria said he would work with members of his association to make wrestling a major medal winners for Anambra at national competition.
He said he would create opportunities for youth to compete and win medals nationally and internationally.
“I am excited about this responsibility, it is what we longed for for a long time now
“The task is simple, ‘Go and Development Wrestling’’, and I and members of my board have accepted.
We will work to return wrestling as the most preferred Sporting event in Anambra, we will develop talents and position wrestling as a major medal winner for Anambra.
“We will catch them young through the establishment of Young Wrestlers’ Club in schools, we will also look out for boys and girls in the streets and help them to channel their energies to becoming national and world champions,” he said.
Animoke is the proprietor of the popular Mighty Fancy Super Star Club, Fegge in Onitsha, a place of training for combat sports fighters such as wrestling, Taekwondo, Karate and Judo.
Other members of AWA are Emeka Obidimma, Chukwunonso Eze, Ogbonna Agu, Obi Mbah, Usman Aliyu(Coach) and Justina Okoli, Secretary.
