ADC’s Nwosu Condemns Attack on Peter Obi In Benin City
The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Anambra has condemned the attack on Mr Peter, former governor of Anambra and some leaders of the party in Edo state.
Nwosu who reacted in a Statement on Tuesday described the attack as dangerous and worrisome development for democracy in Nigeria.
Peter Obi escaped by the whiskers when some thugs attacked the Secretariat of ADC in Benin and country home of Chief John Oyegun, during a visit to Benin City on Tuesday.
Nwosu said called for the arrest and prosecution of the persons involved and that every step necessary should be taken to prevent future occurrences and restore public confidence.
He said the attack should be condemned by all adding politics must be devoid of bitterness, intimidation, and violence.
According to him, this development is disheartening, condemnable, and poses a serious threat to the principles that underpin our democracy.
“An attack on Peter Obi is an attack on all well meaning Nigerians who believe in peace, civility, and the democratic right of every citizen to participate freely in the political process.
“Democracy thrives on healthy competition of ideas, constructive engagement, and mutual respect not aggression or lawlessness.
“Political differences must never degenerate into acts that endanger lives or undermine national stability.
“I call on the relevant security agencies to act swiftly and decisively to investigate this incident, unearth the perpetrators, and ensure that they are brought to justice.
“Nigeria must rise above violence and embrace a political culture rooted in maturity, tolerance, and respect for democratic values,” he said.
