Anambra Bizman Docked For N39.2m Land Fraud In Lagos
Chinedu Okekeigwe, 55, a Lagos based businessman has been before Igbosere magistrate court Lagos for fraudulently defrauding one Chief Chuks Obue of the sum of N39.2 million in fake land deal.
Okekeigwe, an indigene of Nise in Awka South local government area of Anambra was slammed with a three count charge of obtaining money under false pretenses, criminal conversion and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
In the matter between the Commissioner Of Police vs Chinedu Okekeigwe, Okekeigwe an indigene of Nise in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra was accused of defrauding Chuks of N39.2 on the pretext that he had 14 plots of land for sale.
It said Obue had planned to use the property for construction of a Cottage Hospital project but discovered it was non-existent when he tried to take possession of the land.
The prosecution said the fraudulent act was an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 287(9)(d) of Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
“That you, Chinedu Okekeigwe, m, the owner of Great Addmore Investment Company Limited, sometime in June, 2023, under the Lagos Magisterial District did obtain fraudulently N39.2m from one Christian Chukwudi Obue ‘m’ by false pretence of selling 14 plots of land to him.
“That you made this representation knowing the same to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 314 of Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015,” it said.
Okekeigwe was granted bail for the sum of N5 million each by two sureties with verifiable employment statuses and tax clearance.
The matter was adjourned to Feb. 18 for hearing.
