Anambra Central: Sen. Umeh Votes, Says Victory Is Assured
Chief Victor Umeh, candidate of the Labour Party for Anambra Central Senatorial District has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address complaints of late and non arrivals of officials and machines in the district.
Umeh made the call after casting his vote at PU018, Aguluzigbo Ward in Anaocha LGA of Anambra on Saturday.
He commended the speed of accreditation through BVAS expressed worry about reports from his agents that machines were malfunctioning in some polling units.
“The information I have from my agents is that some BVAS machines are not performing well in the Okpuno area of Awka South LGA.
“This is a densely populated area, i want to call on INEC to send technical support to the identified places and take care of the problems,” he said.
Umeh said Aguluzigbo had been a dominant group for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to which he was the former national chairman, but will go to the Labour Party this time.
He regretted the Federal High Court Awka which disqualified him saying it cost him seven campaign days.
Umeh said his opponents went further to spread the propaganda that he was no longer in the race but thanked the Feb. 23 Judgment of the Court Of Appeal which affirmed him as LP candidate.
“I lost seven days to the Court case, when the judgment of the Federal High Court came, I had to wait for seven days to file the appeal before resuming my campaign.
“My opponents did everything to stop me, they even went about telling people I am no longer in the race, thank God. The large crowd here is a sign of victory for Peter Obi and myself,” he said.
