Anambra Community Sues For Calm Over Assult On EEDC Staff, Vandalism Of Vehicle
Enugu Electricity Distribution Company EEDC has called the leadership of Nanka Community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra to produce an Indigene who assaulted its staff and and destroyed an operational vehicle while on official duty.
Mr Frank Ejiofor, Mr Head of EEDC Security said this when he received leadership of Nanka Community led by Rev. Canon Ifeanyichukwu Ezeike, the President General of Nanka who were at Ekwulobia on a solidarity visit on Saturday.
A young man from the community identified as identified as Izuchukwu Ofojama had on May 11 engaged staff of EEDC in a squabble, destroying the company vehicle in a bid to stop them from disconnecting supply to his residence
Ofojama who was accused of illegal consumption of power in a viral video was seen assaulting the EEDC officials, using wood to smash the front and rear windshields and side mirrors of their vehicle puncturing two tyres of the vehicle with screw driver.
Ezeike who condemned the action of Ofojama who was at large said they were at the EEDC to appease the company on the ugly action.
“The incident was very unfortunate and unwarranted, our intention as a community is to settle the matter amicably, and we are committed to repairing the damages on the vehicle.
“We do not think the young man was in his right senses. The entire village and town also condemned his action,” he said.
Responding, Ejiofor frowned at the unwarranted attack on the company’s staff who were on lawful duty.
He called on customers to always make use of the established complaint redress channels to express their grievances, adding that the company did not tolerate such action.
“I commend Nanka community and its leadership for condemning this act of their kinsman.
“However, we insist that you provide him, the company will stop at nothing in prosecuting anyone that assaults any of its staff on duty.
“EEDC has the highest regard for our customers and does not encourage customers resorting to violence as a way of expressing their grievances,” he said
