Anambra CP, Adeoye Seeks Partnership With Tricycle Operators, Promises Protection For All
CP Aderemi Adeoye, Commissioner of Police in Anambra has assured that his command will protect tricycle operators in the state from intimidation and abuse by touts and criminal elements.
Adeoye gave the assurance while addressing the tricyclists when he hosted them under the eagis of a get together organised by Anambra Keke Drivers Forum (AKDF) to a new year party in Awka on Monday.
He described tricyclists as crucial to the security of the society, saying that the Command would partner operators in its efforts to rid Anamb of criminality.
He called on the operators to assist the law enforcement agents in combating crimes because they conveyed all kinds of persons to the nooks and crannies of the State at all times.
“It is important we partner with you because you are everywhere, you are amiable partners.
“We have to build bridges of understanding so that Police will not be a problem to you but will help you to solve your problems.
“The responsibility of the Police as a security agency is to protect and safeguard everyone in society. ‘Keke’ riders are part of the society.
“We want to let you know that you are a very important part of society,” he said.
Adeoye said Police would not allow anybody to intimidate the tricycle operators because they were not second class citizens but hardworking people carrying out lawful businesses in the society.
According to him, you have rights under the constitution like every other citizen, we will not condone anyone violating your rights.
“. Kindly channel whatever grouse against anybody including Police officers to my office through your leader,” he said.
On his part, MrOsita Obi, Earlier, the Coordinator of AKDF commended the police for the partnership assuring that members would be law abiding.
Obi deplored economic exploitation of Keke operators by non-state actors saying that it was affecting the viability of their businesses negatively.
