Dr Vincent Okpala, Commissioner for Health in Anambra who said this in Awka on Friday pointed out that government had put in place measures for public transporters, primary and secondary schools, and market to have primary precaution measures like hand wash set and sanitisers.
He called on owners of public places like hotels, banks and Churches to complement the efforts of government to keep the virus out of Anambra and indeed Nigeria.
The commissioner said they were also working with the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) to spread the message expressing satisfaction that the scheme had adopted prevention measure since the day it camp for the orientation course.
He said people should wash their hands with soap and warm water regularly or use hand sanitisers as a way of increasing their personal hygiene.
“Basically, we have been mounting awareness campaign on the virus, we encourage people to wash hands with soap and warm water regularly during the day and prevent touching their faces with an unwashed hands.
“Where there is no soap and water, they should hand sanitiser.
“The Ministry is working very closely with NYSC in Anambra and I am glad that the agreement we had as to ensuring safety on camp through having a screening centre is being implemented.
“We are also using this medium to advance our campaign on hygiene so that when the corps members go into the communities they will take the message with hem.
“We are sensitising public transport operators, hoteliers, principal and headmistresses of school, market and soon there will be basic hygiene measures in theses places.
“They must understand that prevention is better than cure, keeping COVID-19 out of Anambra and out of Nigeria is a collective responsibility,” he said.
