Anambra FA Cup Kicks Off May 24 With 18 Male, Female Teams
The Anambra State Football Association (AnSFA) Cup will kick off on May 24 with 18 teams including 16 male football and two female football teams.
Victor Aniekwena, Vice chairman of AnSFA said this during the pre-tournament briefing and draws in Awka on Monday.
Aniekwena said the matches would be played on four venues including Chuba Ikpeazu Mini Stadium, Onitsha, NEROS Stadium, Nanka, Tansi Int’l College pitch and Awka Township Stadium both in Awka.
He said the Finals of both the female and male categories of the competition would be played on June 11.
He urged the participating teams to be of good behaviour and play by the rules while promising that the FA would provide the best footballing environment in terms of officiating to enable the best dude to win.
Speaking further, Chijioke Onyedika, secretary of AnSFA said the matches would be played in the morning and afternoon adding that teams should endeavor to be at the venue at least one hour to kick-off to eliminate excuses for late coming and walkover.
He said matches that ended in a tie would go straight into penalties as there would be no extra time.
Onyedika said the competition was not played in 2020 due to covid-19 restrictions and 2021 due to the shortness of timeline which demanded that Anambra sent in their nomination within 10 days.
“Last year, the NFF said we should send our representative within 10 days and that was too short for us to play, so we nominated FC Ifeanyi Ubah to represent us, they turned it down and we sent Aspire FC who were the defending champions at that time,” he said.
Polly Emenike, Chairman of NEROS Pharmaceutical, sponsors of the competition urged participants to make the tournament competitive.
Emenike who was represented by Victor Nwangwu advised the clubs to continue to provide the platform for talented football stars to exhibit their skills and use their prizes to improve themselves and their players.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the participating teams include Peace FC, Awka, Future Hope, Nkpor; DOSAD FC, Enugu-Ukwu; Ozalla FA, Onitsha; Global FC, Onitsha; Fortune FC, Onitsha; Aspire, FC Adazi-Ani; DWilson, Awka and Galaxy FC, Onitsha.
Others are Uncle Ralph FC, Onitsha; All Stars FC, Onitsha; Pope John Paul FC, Awka; Emmychris FC, Nsugbe; Big T FC, Umunnya, Sanky FC, Ogbaru and Nnewi United, Nnewi.
