Anambra Government Celebrates Rojenny Stadium Boss With Prestigious Award
Gov. Obiano of Anambra has conferred an award to Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, Managing Director of Rojenny Stadium and Tourists Village, Oba near Onitsha for his contributions to the development of State and Nigeria in general.
Ezeonwuka was one of the selected sons and daughters of the state who received awards at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Awka on Wednesday.
Ezeonwuka, a trailblazer in sports facility investment was honoured with “Distinguished Anambra State Grand Commander”.
Obiano said the award derived from Anambra Award Law (1995) which empowered the governor to confer an award on deserving citizens of the state as he deemed appropriate.
Speaking to journalists, Ezeonwuka said he was happy that the government of Anambra noticed his contributions of many years and recognised them while he was still alive.
He said part of his contributions included the construction of the first and only private Olympic stadium in Nigeria about 38 years ago which provided a platform for athletes to rise to the world stage.
He recalled that he was the first Nigerian to explore the businesses opportunities in Taiwan in 1976 where he gained the expertise to set up the Rojenny Group of companies.
“I am happy that my desire to develop the society which made me to invest in sports facilities, Games resort and open up tourism did not only yield good results but is also recognised by my state government.
“I was the first person to go to Taiwan, I led the first generation of Igbo businessmen to motorcycle business in Taiwan, I am happy that some my mentees are now into automobile manufacturing.
“This award is a challenge to me to do more, and I am not relenting so far as there is life, my only wish is that Rojenny Stadium should not be allowed to die, I want to see games and Competition, that will be my joy,” he said.
Ezeonwuka congratulated Obiano for a successful reign as governor of Anambra and wished him happy retirement after his handover on March 17.
No fewer than 200 persons received the awards including Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe Mr, Peter Obi, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, Sen. Victor Umeh, and Sen. Ben Ndi-Obi
Others were all Judges in the state, all members of the Anambra House of Assembly, all members of Obiano’s cabinet, politicians, academics and businessmen.
