Anambra Guber: PDP Aspirants Agree To Support Winner Of Primary
Aspirants under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Nov. 6 governorship election in Anambra have resolved to support whoever emerged the flagbearer after the June 26 primary.
The aspirants reached the agreement at a meeting convened by Chief Olisah Metuh, former Publicity Secretary of PDP at his Nnewi residence on Sunday.
The aspirants also set upper limits to the amount of money they would pay for consultation and congress logistics at N3,000 and N30,000 respectively, saying they would not allow money to be the chief determinant of victory.
Emerging from the closed day meeting, Metuh told newsmen that the meeting was historic and significant for the success of the PDP in the November poll.
“This is the first time in the history of Anambra that we have this array of talents aspiring to Anambra in PDP and indeed any party, we are happy with them.
“The aspirants have met and deliberated, they have also x-rayed the yearnings of Anambra people and have decided to work towards the victory of the party in the coming election.
“We also agreed that whoever emerged as the flag bearer will be supported by all aspirants to ensure victory for PDP.
” Most importantly, we have resolved that apairants will no longer allow anybody to make undue demand or exploit them in their quest to govern Anambra, in that regard, nobody should spend not more than N3,000 and N30, 000 for primary logistics.
“When you allow candidates to spend too much money on elections, you are opening the vault of the state for exploitation, this is with the understanding of the party leadership.
” We also prayed and agreed that there is no more intra-party bickering, this agreement is binding on the 13 aspirants present and three that sent in their apology,” he said.
Also speaking, Chief Obiora Okonkwo said the deliberations and consensus was agreed upon by all those involved adding that the smiles on the faces of aspirants were genuine.
Okonkwo said zoning was not an issue and was not discussed as every aspirant had the legitimacy to contest.
“What happened here was important to every aspirant and we are going to enforce it, it also takes care of post primary rancour,” he said.
On her part, Mrs Chidi Onyemelukwe applauded the initiative stressing that it is a welcome development.
According to her, I believe that female and male aspirants should be treated equally. Today’s meeting is about the future of Anambra, politics should not be all about money
Other aspirants at the meeting included Mr Valentine Ozigbo, Chief Chuma Nzeribe, Mr Ifedi Okwenna, Sen. Ugochukwu Uba, Chief Emeka Etiaba(SAN).
Others are Sen. Uche Ekwunife, Mr Walter Okeke, Rep. Chris Azubogu, Dr. Winston Udeh and Mrs Genevieve Ekwechi.
