Anambra Orders Repainting Of Private Buildings In public Places
The Anambra government has directed owners and occupants of buildings in public view to repaint them or face the law.
Dr Felix Odimegwu, Commissioner for Environment said this in Awka on Thursday.
Odimegwu said the directive was especially for those living in Aguata, Nnewi North, Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Awka South, Idemili North and Ogbaru areas.
He said general household inspection on dilapidated and
unpainted structures defacing the environment would commence with immediate effect
“Notice is hereby given to all residents and occupants of buildings which are in public view
areas of the state with particular interest in Onitsha, Awka, Nkpor, Nnewi and Ekwulobia.
“This exercise is aimed at strengthening the existing building structures, improving
the aesthetic ambience and the green space of the state.
“This is as enshrined in the Anambra State Environmental Management, Protection and Administration Law
2024.
“Residents are enjoined to fully maintain, repaint (if necessary) their
residential and commercial premises which are in public view areas,” he said
Odimegwu said Anambra Environmental Management Protection and Administration
Law 2024 provided the legal framework for beautification and aesthetic face lifting of the state.
He said regulators would embarking on field operation starting from July 1 July for the enforcement.
“Individuals and corporate organisations within the purview as stated above, are required to repaint their buildings, especially those that have not been repainted in the last 10 years or buildings whose current paintings were defacing the environment.
“A clean, beautiful and eco-friendly Anambra is possible if we join hands together
to improve her aesthetic ambience.
Public view areas of interest are attached herewith,” he said.
