Anambra PDP: Chieftain Lauds Congress, Warns Against Plot To Scuttle Exercise
Chief Anthony Nwabuona, a Chief of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra Anambra has applauded the ongoing congresses in the state.
Nwabuonna said this while speaking with newsmen in Awka on Tuesday.
He said the Wards’ and Local Government Area congresses were participatory, grassroots oriented and transparent.
He said the Gov. Seyi Makinde led Congress Committee had been doing a great job and that the results so far returned had been a true reflection of the choices of the masses.
According to him, the Congresses in Anambra have been impressive, a wide departure from what was obtained in the past when people were allocated offices without input by party faithful.
Nwabuona called in the national leadership of the party to sustain the tempo of the process and ensure it was concluded State Congress on March 5.
He expressed worries that some members of the party were already petitioning the national Secretariat with the intention of scuttling the congress.
Nwabuona urged people to jettison the idea of derailing the process but go to the grassroots and mobilise delegates for their preferred candidates.
“It is unfortunate that some people who play God are working hard to frustrate the ongoing congress, they are writing and flying all manner of petitions to make sure the state Congress does not hold so that they can throw up crisis.
“These are the kind of people that have held the party down in the state since 2006, they deny the people a leadership that are product of the people and one which will bring our glory back.
“Our appeal to the national body of our party to ignore these frivolous petitions and allow the congress committee which it set up and in whom we are pleased to conclude it’s task,” he said.
It would be recalled that PDP held Ward and Local Government Area Congresses in Anambra on Feb. 19 and Feb. 26 respectively.
