Anambra Poly, Emerging Force In Technical, Innovative Education—Rector
Dr Njideka Chikezie, the Acting Rector of Anambra Polytechnic- Mgbakwu says the institution is determined to provide solutions to national development challenges by regular supply of well equipped workforce.
Chikezie said this at the 3rd International Interdisciplinary Conference held in Mgbakwu on Thursday.
The theme of the conference was “Innovation for Sustainable Development in a Digital Era”.
She said the vision of the institution was to be a leading Polytechnic of great reputation, with an outstanding and enviable academic standard.
“We are equipping students to be technologically skilled, morally-sound and entrepreneurial-minded.
“Anambra Polytechnic under my watch aims to achieve excellence through promoting the acquisition of technological and academic competencies in a serene academic environment.
“It is important to mention that ANSPOLY is enlisted among the NBTE approved Polytechnics in Nigeria offering National Diploma (ND) following the interim accreditation of 12 ND courses in four faculties,” she said.
Chikezie pointed out that the institution had not commended awarding Higher National Diploma programme and that it was affecting student enrollment.
She called on Gov. Chukwuma Soludo to enable the Polytechnic get the needed capacity and approvals to attsun the status of HND awarding institution.
“I am happy as it stands now that our governor has constituted a special committee to look into the challenges and I am optimistic that he will intervene,” she said.
In his lecture, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu said there was need for innovative management of the environment and natural resources for sustainable development.
He said land was a diminishing resource especially in the Southeast and that time had come for adoption of techniques to optimise it to meet various needs.
On her part, Prof. Kate Omenugha, Acting Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University,
said the society had evolved that one had to be tech driven and innovative to be economically competitive.
Omenugha who was represented by represented by Prof. Njideka Ebisi said humans must begin to think differently with the aim to bring something new to the table.
“Research should be problem solving oriented, polytechnics are natural for innovation, it prepares you for more practical life experience.
“Innovation is not just about science and technology, it cuts across every sphere of life,” she said.
Awards were bestowed on deserving persons for their contributions to the society including Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, Commissioner for Education, Mr Julius Chukwuemeka, Commissioner for Power and Water Resources and
Mr Chinedu Nwoye.
Others were Ms Chiamaka Nnake, Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr Ossy Onuko, Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority and
Alahaji Abdulr
azak Olahan, the Oba Yoruba of Awka.
