Anambra Rice Boss Bemoans Okija Tragedy, Harps On Prioritisation Of Safety
Chief Akai Egwuonwu, Managing Director of Stine Mill Industries, producers of Anambra Rice has expressed deep sadness over the tragic stampede that led to the loss of many lives at a rice-sharing event in Okija town.
Egwuonwu in his condolence message on Sunday said it was painful that families had lost women, elderly, pregnant, nursing mothers, and children in this unfortunate incident.
He acknowledged the sincere intention of the Obi Jackson Foundation, led by Chief Ernest Obiejesi for organising the event aimed at cushioning the hardship of less privileged members of the community at this season.
He however said the unfortunate incident brings to the fore, the need for organisers of such events to prioritise safety and effective crowd management during such distributions.
According to him, I implore all individuals and organisations engaged in charitable activities to prioritise the safety and well-being of beneficiaries through necessary measures to prevent such incidents.
“I commiserate with the Obijackson Foundation and urge them to never be demoralised in their noble interventions
“May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may their families find comfort and solace during this difficult time,” he said.
