Anambra: Umuoji Elects New Town Union Executive
Chief Cyril Ifeanyichukwu Muoemenam has been re-elected the new President General (PG) of Umuoji Improvement Union of Nigeria (UIUN) for another term of three years.
Muoemenam emerged after polling 243 to defeat Chief Cosmos Ikeme who garnered 38 votes in the election which was held on Sept. 20 at community Civic Centre.
Mr Abuchi Onwumelu, a media practitioner and social trade unionist was elected as the Public Relations Officer of UIUN in the keenly contested in which 292 delegates from affiliate branches, villages and groups of the Town Union participated.
Other elected officers were Mr Chudi Chukelu and Chief Emeka Egbueh emerged as First Vice PG and Second Vice PG respectively, Mr Peter Okafor, Secretary General; Mr Ashinze Nweje,Asst Nat Secretary General and Dr Uchenna Udegbe, Financial Secretary General.
Others were Nwosu Obinna, Asst Financial Secretary 1 and Nnadi Oluchukwu- Asst Financial Secretary 2, Azubuike Obum,National Treasurer; Mr Chuks Odina, Chief Provost, Mr Vincent Okeke-Akwa, Asst Provost 1; Mike Tochukwu Onwuachu, Asst Provost 2 and Chuka Igwilo,Social Welfare.
In a post-election speech, Muoemenam thanked the delegates for finding him and the other newly elected officers worthy for the task and commended them for their peaceful conduct before, during, and after the election.
He assured that he would not betray their trust or abuse the privilege while promising to make peace, unity, and progress his watchwords.
He called on the people of Umuoji to join him in his task of completing and commissioning all the existing developmental projects in Umuoji and as well commence new ones.
He thanked the members of the Electoral Committee headed by Chief Obinna Nwachukwu for living up to expectations adding that he was impressed with the way and manner the election was conducted.
“I want to thank the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for creating an enabling environment for all the communities in the state,” he said.
In his part, Dr Christopher Nnedu, the Regent of Umuoji congratulated the newly elected officers and charged them to work for the greater good of the community.
The election was monitored by observers from the Ministry of Local Government a
nd Chieftaincy Affairs.
