Anambra Vigilance urges residents to be wary of stranger elements
The Anambra Vigilance Group (AVG) has called on residents of the state to be conscious of their environment and report any suspicious movement around them especially in the Ember months.
The AVG made the call in a statement issued by its chairman of its advisory committee, Chief Ikechukwu Aduba on Sunday.
Aduba said there had been reported increase in the influx of persons to the state adding that the group was working with Police and other security agencies to ensure the people were safe.
According to him, AVG wishes to inform the general public about the need for heightened vigilance in all parts of the state, suspicious but unconfirmed mass movement of stranger elements purported was reported around Amawbia, Agulu, Nise, Neni and Adazi axis.
“AVG operatives in these areas are now on red alert to verify and confirm this report.
“AVG operatives in the 179 communities are hereby put on alert, they are advised to collaborate with the Nigeria Police Force and sister security agencies to secure their areas from now till the end of the year,” he said.
Aduba said there was a trend of increased period before the Christmas and New Year celebrations but assured that the AVG had always risen to the occasion in the past.
He advised that the road traffic authorities namely Anambra State Traffic Agency, the Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Police and OCHA Brigade to enforce the ban on motorcycles by all members of the public in the cities as pronounced bh the state government.

“It is against the Land Use Act for any individual to sell land, especially to cattle rearers or stranger elements without obtaining permission from the State Government first.
“This warning is being repeated to forestall nomadic migrant herders from settling in our forests which is equally under surveillance by AVG Intelligence Unit.
“All AVG Senior Zonal Supervisors, Commanders and Chairmen should work with their traditional rulers and President Generals so that Anambra remains number one in terms of security of lives and property,” he said
He ordered all AVG Senior Zonal Supervisors, Commanders and Chairmen to work together with their Traditional Rulers and President Generals so that Anambra state remains number one in terms of security of lives and properties especially in these “Ember Months”.
He advised residents of the state to be vigilant and supply genuine information to AVG while urging those raising false alarm and creating unnecessary tension in the state should desist from such unpatriotic act forthwith, he concluded.
