ANSSI 2025: CKC, USS Ukpor Progress As Competition Enters Zonal Finals
Christ the king College Onitsha and Union Secondary School, Ukpor in Nnewi South Local Government Area have qualified for the zonal elimination stage of football event of the 2025 edition of Anambra Sports Solution Initiative (ANSSI).
CKC was joined by Modebe Secondary from Onitsha zone in the U14 and U18 categories of male football of the festival while Ukpor High School which came first in the U-18 female category will join USS from Nnewi South.
Still on football, Uncle Ralph De Great Academy and St. Paul Academy would represent Awka North at the zonal finals after defeating their respective opponents from Ebenebe
Community Secondary School Nkwelle- Ezunaka and New Era Secondary School, Nteje will also represent Oyi LGA in football at the zonal stage.
In other sports, Central Primary School, Fegge emerged the overall winners, while Zik Avenue Primary school finished second to represent Onitsha in athletics.
Some of the athletic events were 60m, 100m, 150m, 200m, 800m 300m and 4×100m relay, 4×100m mixed relay as well as triple jump, high jump, shutput in primary and secondary school categories.
Marist Comprehensive College Nteje will represent Oyi Council Area in basketball.
Meanwhile some officials and athletes have reacted to the quality of organisation and competitiveness of the festival.
Helen Ezeadim, the Coordinator of Onitsha South commended the state government for offering youths the opportunity to develop themselves in sports from the grassroots.
She said lack of financial supports from the council chairman was part of the challenges while urging the organisers to improve on the officiating, equipment and ensure discipline to time.
“I thank God for the wonderful opportunity given to the kids to showcase their talents. We have harnessed a lot of talents in the school sports to God be the glory,” she said.
On his part, Choice Eze, 12-year-old primary six pupil of the Central School, Fegge, who won the 100m U12 boys, said he looked forward to combine education with sports.
“I want to be like the world iconic athlete, Usain Bolt. He is my role model in life,” he said.
ANSSI 2025 kicked off on March 19 at the community level across the 21 Local Government Areas of the State.
A total of 11 sporting events including Athletics, Ncho, Basketball, Chess, Cricket, Football, Scrabble, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo and Volleyball are featuring in the competition for both boys and girls in U12, U14 and U18 categories.
