Asatu: Soludo Axes Akpudo, Dike Emerges Maiden Chair Of Newly Created ASTUC
Gov. Chukwuma Soludo has approved the renaming of Anambra State Association of Town Union, (ASATU) to Anambra State Town Unions Council (ASTUC) in a move to improve the relevance and functionality of the body.
ASTUC is the umbrella body of the Presidents General of the179 communities in Anambra.
This marked the end of the four year reign of Mr Titus Akpudo as the National President of the defunct ASATU.
Soludo made the approval during a meeting with the Presidents General at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia on Saturday, March 29
Soludo also approved the appointment of Mr Vin Dike, the President General Oraifite Improvement Union as the Chairman of the newly created ASTRUC.
Soludo said Presidents General played critical roles in the society as they were public servants who were elected to perform specific duties for the government in their respective communities.
In a reaction, Peter Onyejegbu
President-General, Uke Development Union, said Soludo’s administration had consistently demonstrated a commitment towards community development and grassroots governance.
Onyejegbu said the rebranding and appointment reinforced the governor’s dedication to enhancing the lives of Anambra residents through the useful engagement of Presidents Generals as the chief administrators at the grassroot.
He congratulated Dike on his emergence and expressed confidence that he would pilot the affairs of ASTUC creditably and progressively.
“Vin Dike is an exemplary leader, I am confident he will do well, so I say congratulations to him.
“I also want to thank Barr. Akpudo who gave us his best, he dedicated time and experience and made us gain recognition by the state government, he was a good leader,” he said.
