Awka Stadium Project Would Be Among NIGERIA’S Best… Monimichelle
Ebi Egbe, Chairman of MoniMichelle Sports construction company has said that the Awka Township Stadium still under construction will be among the best in Nigerian upon completion.
Egbe said this while speaking with members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra Chapter who were on site to the stadium as part of activities marking Anambra SWAN WEEK 2020 on Thursday.
The theme of the WEEK is “Promoting Sports Through Responsible Journalism”
He said the firsts phase of the project would consist hybrid grass football pitch, 8-lane IAAF standard track, five metre set back around the arena which could be used for social events and top notch medical room.
He said the main pitch was being installed with latest technology with zero undulation, underground cooling systems to keep the grass constantly wet, 12mm shock absorber and 45 mm premium lead free grass which has 12 year warranty.
The sports facility experts described the pitch as the most crucial aspect of stadium construction adding that most pitch in the country failed CAF test in spite of the size and beauty of the super structure.
He commended Gov. Willie Obiano for opting for the best technology in this part of the world while urging Sports writers to support the revolution in Anambra sports sector.
“This stadium will be one of the best installation by me in Nigeria, everything we are doing here is with the best technology in the industry, the pitch is all that matters in stadium construction.
“We are using hybrid grass of 45 mm shock absorber on zero undulation ground and we expect that it will last between 12 and 14 years with good maintenance culture.
“So, I must commend the Anambra government which has taken it upon itself to give the best to the people, “ he said.
Emmanuel Ndukuba, a former chairman of SWAN in Anambra lauded the pace of work on the site and called on the contractor to execute it according to specification.
Ndukuba said the people of Anambra had yearned for state owned standard sports facility and lauded government efforts towards addressing that.
On his part, Tony Oji, chairman of SWAN said the association was a willing partner to both private and public sectors on sports development.
Oji who applauded the political will of executing the project said SWAN members would do the much they could to promote activities in the sector.
