Awogu Says APC Will Retain Anambra South Senatorial Seat
Chief Arinzechukwu Awogu, the National Coordinator of Ikemba Front, an All Progressives Congress (APC) support group has said the party would reclaim the Anambra South Senatorial District seat in the National Assembly.
The seat became vacant following the death of Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah who died in July 2024.
Awogu who made this vow in Nnewi on Saturday said that the Ikemba Front would work to ensure the victory of Chief Azuka Okwuosa, candidate of the APC in the Aug. 16 by-election.
The Senatorial by-election will be held in the Seven LGAs under the zone including Aguata, Ekwusigo, Ihiala, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Orumba North and Orumba South.
Awogu, a former Senior Special Assistant to former Gov. Willie Obiano on Political Matters said the group had started forming ward/polling units canvassers in Anambra South Senatorial zone ahead of the contest.
“APC is making a loud statement with the senatorial by-election to the effect that it is the precursor to the Nov. 8 Anambra governorship election, so our party will leave no stone unturned.
“The Anambra South Senatorial seat shall be retained by our party and Ikemba Front will be conspicuously involved hence our reason for this assemblage.
“Winning the by-election is strengthened by the choice of candidates made by the opposition political parties whose candidates for the election are weak and feeble and without endearing ties with the people of the zone,” he said.
Awogu said APC choice of Okwuosa, a former Chairman of old Nnewi Local Government Council and former Commissioner in Anambra was a strong demonstration of the readiness of the party to retain the seat
He described Okwuosa as a close confidant of our eternal leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and a friend and supporter of late Sen. Ubah.
Awogu said Okwuosa was the most prepared and qualified for the job and asked the people of Anambra South district to vote for the APC candidate for impactful representation.
Other political parties and their candidates in the election are Africa Democratic Congress, Mr Chukwudi Amangbo; Labour Party, Chuma Nzeribe; Dr Emma Nwachukwu, All Progressives Grand Alliance and Young Progressives Party, Prince Ofobuike Okoli-Egbo.
