Complaints Commission Recovers N0.7M Unused College Fee For Varsity Lecturer in Anambra
The Public Complaints Commission (PCC) in Anambra has recovered the sum of N707,000 paid by a university lecturer as school fee for his daughter.
Dr Chukwudi Orjiakor, the complainant had petitioned the PCC to enable him get back the money he paid to British Spring College Awka (BSC) in favour of his daughter Chiafukamnanya Orjiakor.
Orjiakor said his daughter was until 3rd term which ended July 2022, a JSS 3 of the College but did not return to resume for SS1 which started October 2022.
He said in the petition that his daughter could not return due to family squabble which took her out of the country and made her unavailable to continue her education in the school.
Orjiakor said after presenting the matter to the school and subsequent verification of his claims by the management, he decided to apply for refund.
He said all effort made to get the school authority to refund him the money proved abortive as the management of British Spring College did not respond to the various letters written to them.
The petitioner in his petition dated July,25 prayed the Complaint Commission to help him recover the N707,000 he paid without getting value for it,
Mrs Emelda Okoli, the Federal Commissioner in charge of PCC in Anambra told journalists that the Commission swung into action immediately to investigate the matter.
Emelda who spoke through Mr Charles Ekwunife, a Director in the Commission said after a thorough investigation, the PCC recommended among other things that the school should refund the money to Orjiakor as he did not enjoy the services he paid for.
He said the College effected the refund in line with the recommendation of the PCC.
“The petitioner received his money in full and he has acknowledged that in an appreciation letter dated Aug.17, 2023 wherein he expressed satisfaction for the way and manner his case was handled,” he said.
