COVID-19: Rotary Club Awka supports Anambra Govt. with cash
The Rotary Club of Awka District 9142 has donated N360, 000 to Anambra Government to support the fight against Coronavirus pandemic.
The club’s President, Prof. Collins Nwogwugwu, led some members of his team to handover the cheque to Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, Secretary to Anambra Government in Awka
Nwogwugwu said Rotary was worried by the hardship the ongoing lockdown had inflicted on the vulnerable in the society and decided to mobilise funds to help ease their plights.
He said they were constrained by the lockdown to go about to distribute palliatives and decided to do it through the government which had the reach to every part of the state and know the people better.
The professor of Economics expressed satisfaction with the way Anambra Government had managed the situation and said he was optimistic that the token would be judiciously handled.
“We, the members of Rotary Club of Awka are here to present the sum N360,000 to Anambra Government through the Secretary to the State Government to support your efforts on COVID-19,” he said.
In his response, Chukwulobelu thanked the Rotarians and all those who had contributed to the cause for their generosity, assuring them that the state government would do its best to ensure that the vulnerable did not suffer.
